Late draft thoughts

Tony Gwynn is worth a grab late in the draft. Remember, Cameron is suspended and will be gone through most of april. Gwynn can offer an occasional SB and a pretty good batting average. He should score some runs. Worth a look in the late rounds.

Troy Percival will probably save 30 games this year. Many drafters will stay away from players on poor teams but that is a mistake. Look for Troy to bring a Ray of sunshine to the Rays!

Tom Gorzellany- A red flag player for 2008. His usage has been high. Some games the Pirates had him throwing 110 pitches. They did that 10 times. Two times he through over 120 pitches. This may make him a risk this year.

Adam LaRoche- If you don’t won him in April, do notfret. He is a slow starter. In fact, you may be able to steal him for a cheap price. He will produce.

What are your thoughts on Ankiel in the late rounds?

Last year he put up 31-11-39 in only 172 abs. Do you think these numbers could translate to 95-33-100 over a full year?

If so, he seems like a late round steal.

Ankiel will play in 125 games, 457 at bats,122 hits, 20 doubles, 2 triples, 27 home runs, 84 RBI’s. Rick will walk 33 times and strikeout 101 times and have 5 stolen bases.

This equates to a .267 batting average.
