BITS Tips

My offseason fantasy baseball tip of the day: keep your eye on Cincinnati’s Joey Votto. In a 24 game stint as a call up last season, the Reds 23-year-old first base prospect hit .321/.360/.548. He struggled a bit with lefties in the majors, hitting .269/.296/.346 in 27 plate appearances, which is fairly consistent with his .669 OPS against lefties in the minors last season. Can he overcome that split enough to lead you to the kind of fantasy glory you’re used to enjoying? Maybe. ZIPS project a .281/.357/.466 line through 556 at bats for Votto with 23 HRs, 55 runs, 88 RBI, and, get this, 17 steals. Lance Berkman had the most steals of any 1B last season, 7 of them. Needless to say, if you can get 17 steals from your first baseman, you’re in good shape.
